Siya's bedroom looked like a war room for competition planning. Printouts of past competition results were scattered among empty chip packets and cold coffee cups. Priya occupied the desk chair, analyzing performance videos on her phone, while Aashvi sat cross-legged on a cushion, reviewing her notes.
"These people are insane," Siya groaned, watching a dance routine for the twentieth time. "Their formations are so perfect!"
"Hello? Have you seen yourself dance?" Priya was in the chair. "Those new contemporary moves you added? Mind-blowing!"
"Those belle inspired moves, you mean?" Aashvi giggled, immediately ducking behind a pillow.
"They are NOT belle inspired!" Siya's cheeks flushed. "And what about you? Have you done any practice of taekwondo."
Aashvi's expression turned surprisingly confident. "Actually... I've been working on a special technique. I think I can win this."
"Oho! Look who's getting confident!" Priya's eyes sparkled. "Now if only you could be this confident around Es-"
"Stop!" Aashvi buried her red face in the pillow. "Competition pe focus karte hain!"
(Let's focus on competition)
Meanwhile, the boys were deep in their own strategy session via group call.
"Guys, help me I didn't understand what tune to play on the guitar?" Krishiv sounded worried. "Please help me."
"Chill," Yash reassured him. "Your new composition is amazing. Even Priya would be imp- I mean, even the judges will be impressed."
"Smooth, bhai, very smooth," Eshan laughed. "By the way, I checked out the modeling category every one is good."
"Eshan, you've got this," Krishiv encouraged. "Your walk is perfect, your poses are on point-"
"Thanks to all that practice in front of Aash-" Yash began.
"MOVING ON," Eshan interrupted loudly, "Yash, what about your basketball competition? I heard they're really good."
Back in Siya's room:
"Oh my god!" Priya suddenly shrieked, staring at her phone.
"Kya hua?" Siya and Aashvi rushed over.
(What happened?)
"Look who's judging the music category!" Priya turned her phone around.
"No way!" Siya grabbed the phone. "The teacher who is rude to everyone and no one like her is it her only?"
"Yes Ab toh I have to do something which will impress her too with the other teachers!"
(Yes Now I have to do something which will impress her with other teachers)
"The one that would sound perfect with guitar accompaniment?" Aashvi suggested innocently.
"I don't know what you're talking about," Priya sniffed, but she was already humming the tune.
On the boys' call:
"Check the judges list," Yash said suddenly. "They just posted it."
"Bro!" Krishiv's voice cracked. "That khadoos teacher? The one Priya always talks about that she hates her?"
"But she never talks to you so how do you know that she hates that teacher?" Eshan teased.
"I- that's- just shut up!"
Back at Siya's:
"Let's make a proper schedule," Siya pulled out her planner. "Morning practices, lunch break rehearsals..."
"Evening sessions," Aashvi added softly, then blushed. "The modeling team uses the auditorium then."
"And that's important because...?" Siya grinned.
"Because... good lighting for taekwondo?"
"Right," Priya nodded solemnly. "Just like how the music room has 'perfect acoustics' when certain people are practicing guitar."
"Says the girl who keeps 'accidentally' singing in harmony with Krishiv's practice sessions," Siya teased.
On the call:
"Their basketball team is doing extra hours," Yash mentioned, scrolling through updates.
"So will you," Krishiv said. "Since it's the same time as dance practice."
"Pure coincidence," Yash muttered.
"Like how I practice guitar during choir practice?" Krishiv laughed.
"Or how Eshan volunteers for sports day setup during morning training?" Yash added.
"I really hate you both," Eshan grumbled.
As midnight approached, both groups finalized their strategies, analyzed their competition, and absolutely did NOT spend time coordinating their schedules to match certain other people's practice times.
"Final check," Siya yawned. "1 month to go. Morning practices, afternoon run-throughs, evening refinements..."
"And completely accidental hallway encounters," Priya added with a smirk.
"With totally random people," Aashvi agreed, hiding her smile.
"Wait I have to suggest one thing. Hum log mere dance room mein bhi practice kar skte hai agar you both are ok with it." Siya totally forgot that she has a dance room owned by her but she remembered it.
(We can use my dance room if you both are ok with it)
On the boys' side:
"All set?" Krishiv asked. "Extra practice from tomorrow?"
"Yup," Yash confirmed. "Though we should coordinate with other teams. You know, for... space management."
"Space management. Sure." Eshan chuckled. "Nothing to do with specific people practicing at specific times."
"Nothing at all," Yash agreed, already setting his alarm earlier to match a certain dance team's schedule.
As both groups wrapped up their planning sessions, six phones buzzed with the same notification: "Inter-school Competition 2024: 1 month to go!"
Six different people smiled, each thinking about more than just winning medals.
After all, some competitions were about more than just bringing home trophies.
